DOUGHERTY, Jerome Garfield PO, V7532, RCNVR MPK - 23 Mar 1944, HMCS QU'APPELLE - Son of Lavinia Dougherty, Toronto, ON; husband of Violet Florence Dougherty, Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales.

 

Petty Officer J G Dougherty was reported missing on active service March 23, 1944, he was lost overboard at sea from the ship HMCS QU'APPELLE in which he serving on, no body was recovered. Petty Officer Dougherty had been making the rounds in the performance of his duty as a Petty Officer of the watch aboard his ship, around midnight on March 23, 1944. He was standing in the company of another rating at the left hand corner of the superstructure on the quarter deck, when the ship took a heavy roll to port, and a large sea washed him overboard.
