In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
KENYON, Chester George Ronald - passed away at Cowichan District Hospital, with his family at his side, on May 25, 2002. A long-time resident of Shawnigan Lake / Mill Bat, Chester was born March 17, 1926, in Carmen, Manitoba. Predeceased by his father, Charles Newman Kenyon, his mother, Margaret Ann Kenyon (Grawberger) and his sisters Zelpha, Georgina and Eva. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lorna, and his children Linda (Boon), Barbara (Marty Eakins), Brenda (Allan Reid), Ronald (Angel), Sandra (Alan Campbell), Kathy (Joe DiLalla), Dale (Julie) and Kim. Also survived by his sisters Mabel and Muriel and brothers Bill and Walter. Chester also will be lovingly remembered by his 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and his father-in-law George Seaton. Chester served his country in the Second World War and the Korean War and completed 27 years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy. He retired with the rank of Master Warrant Officer, CD, in 1973. Chester then completed a Glaciers apprenticeship and worked in the field for 15 years until his retirement at 65 years of age. Chester was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association. Chester loved hunting and fishing and camping and was an avid gardener, he loved his old-time country music, dancing and singing songs and poems he created. Chester's greatest passion was a good game of cribbage. Chester will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbours. The family would like to thank Dr. C. Colegrave, Dr. Spence and Dr. Pewarchuk, and especially the Nursing Staff, Respiratory Techs and all others for their kindness and caring during his illness. Service to be held, May 31, at 1:00 o'clock at First Memorial, 375 Brae Rd., Duncan, BC. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Chester's life following the service by joining the family for tea and refreshments at the Royal Canadian Legion, Malahat Branch #134, 1625 Shawnigan Mill Bill Rd., at 2:30 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Anyone wishing may make donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cowichan District Hospital in Memory of Chester.
Chester enlisted in the RCNVR and later transferred to the RCN. He was originally a gunnery rating (QR) and later re-mustered to boatswain (Bos'n) (BN). He served in the RCN 19 Mar 1948 - 18 Mar 1973
