COONEY, Stewart Ray, Stwd, V35579, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN G07 - son of Wellington R. and Lila M. Cooney; husband of Isobel Josephine Cooney, all of Belleville, Ontario.
Stwd Cooney died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN G07, was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944. The province of Ontario honoured Steward Cooney by naming Cooney Lake in his honour.
