TAGGART, Norman Reid - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing father at the age of 79 after a sudden battle with cancer. Norm was predeceased by his wife Sally Anne (Lockyer), his father Samuel Reid Taggart and mother Vera. Survived by his children, daughter Erin Brownlee (Pat), son Kit (Lyndsay), and grandchildren Jessica, Sarah, Jenna, Samantha, Pat's son Blake and great-grandson Jack. Norm was born and raised in Vancouver, he attended Magee High where he met Sally Anne. After he graduated from high school he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy for 5 years from 1948 to 1952. He saw active duty in Korea aboard the HMCS Cayuga which played a major role in the assault at Inchon and the evacuation of allied troops on the Taedong River. When he returned home Norm married Sally Anne in 1954, they had an exceptionally happy life together. He worked at BC Telephone Company from 1953 to 1986 (33 years). Part of his early time with BC Tel (from 1954 to 1957), was spent building the Mid Canada Line, an Air Defence Early Warning Line, stretching across Canada's 55th parallel of latitude from Labrador to British Columbia. Most of his career was spent as a network supervisor for radio, microwave and television transmissions. After he retired from BC Tel, he worked for Syncrotel as a consultant for another 8 years. He was a man of incomparable honour and integrity who dedicated his life selflessly to his family and we miss him deeply. There will be no formal service for Norm, however there will be a celebration of his life for family and friends on Saturday, June 12th at 2:00 PM at 812 Baker Drive, Coquitlam, BC.
