HARMAN, Eric George CD, PO1, H30595, RCN, died - 23 Oct 1969, HMCS KOOTENAY - Petty Officer Harman was one of nine sailors who died as a result of a gearbox explosion and fire aboard HMCS Kootenay. He was the son of Harold William and Anne Sophia Harman of Vancouver, BC. Husband of Mary Eileen (Nee Omand) Harman and father of Anne, Eric, Darlene, Franklin, Susan and Shawn Harman of Dartmouth, NS. He enlisted in the RCN on 13 Dec 1945

Naming of Harman Lake:  The province of Manitoba has a program of naming geographical features in the Province after members of the Canadian Forces who were killed on duty with the military. Harman Lake has been named in honour of PO Eric George Harman who died on 23 Oct 1969 on HMCS Kootenay.  Harman Lake is located at 57° 04’ 23” latitude / 101° 34’ 20” longitude approximately 45 kilometres north-west of Leaf Rapids. Harman Lake is approximately 20 kilometres west of Crabbe Island.
