GIRARD, Armand Mitchell - was killed in a car accident near Chauvin on Dec. 16, 1980 at the age of 62 years. He is survived by his wife Jeanette; six sons, Richard, Denis, Lionel, Philip, Maurice and Bernard; six daughters, Paulette, Carmen, Dianne, Lorraine, Elaine and Jackie and several grandchildren; three brothers, George, John and Richard; and four sisters Lillian (Nysetvold), Anita, Cecile and Gertrude. Armand was very well known in the Chauvin district as he was born there and had lived there most of his life. At the age of 15 he joined the army militia and was a sergeant and later a trumpet major. In 1939, he was in the mounted Honor Guard for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during their visit to Edmonton. He served four and a half years as a Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War, and was aboard the HMS Prince Robert when it was blown up at sea; however, the ship made it back safely to Belfast. In 1945 he took over his father's farm just south of Chauvin and lived there until his retirement. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. and of the Royal Canadian Legion. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Sacred Heart Church in Chauvin with interment in the R.C. Cemetery in Chauvin. Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Cadieux and family, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Collins and family of Sherwood Park. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crawford and family and Mrs. Emile Goudrault of Beamont. Mr. and Mrs. Denis Girard and family of Bawlf. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Langlois and family from Grande Prairie, Miss Elaine Girard and Ken Lawrence of Provost.
