COWAL, Martin (Marty) - At the St. Catharines General Hospital on Monday, October 11th, 199 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of 56 years to Margaret (Vanstone) Cowal of St. Catharines. Loving father of the twins Lynda Hopkins, Carolyne (richard) Nichols and Martin (Valerie) Cowal all of St. Catharines. Lovde DoDo of Philip Hopkins of Toronto, Jeffrey (Colleen) Hopkins of St. Catharines, Lisa (John) Jell of Los Angeles, California, Lynda Nichols of Toronto, Mackenzie and Travis lattimer and great DoDo of Cortland Jell. Dear brother of Stanley (Shirley) Cowal of Dorset, "Ola" Moore of Hamilton and the late Joh Cowal. A Veteran of Wold War II serving as a stoker 1st class, active convoy from Halifax to Ireland on HMCS Bowmanville. A member of the Canadian Corps Unit 44, Thorold. Marty retired in 1984 as manager of the Civic Employees Credit Union after over 40 years. He was a Director of the Ontario Credit Union League Board from 12 years and Past-Director of the Co-Operations Insurance Company. Marty is resting at the Karl A. Hammond Funeral Home and Chapel, 26 Ormond Street, South Thorold for visitation on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Thursday, October 14th at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Canon Beverley J. Shanley officiating. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Thorold. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association Niagara Branch would be appreciated by the family.

HMCS Bowmanville was not involved in the boarding of a U-boat during the war, but she was present at Lisahally when the surrendered U-boats came in - which is when this pistol was likely acquired.
