GARSTON, Gordon Joseph - It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Garston announces his passing on January 31, 2019 at the age of 94. Gordon is reunited with his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Lorna (nee Doherty) who passed away on January 23, 2005. Dear father of Dr. Ronald Garston (Karen) of Hillsborough, New Brunswick, Lynne Hammill of Ottawa, Valerie Charnish (Barry) of Toronto. Loving grandfather ("Poppa") to Kevin (Kimberley), Brandon and Kathryn Garston, Colleen Hammill-Page (Sean), Gregory Hammill (Melissa), Dr. Michael Charnish (Erin) and Courtney Charnish. Proud great-grandfather to Blake, Addyson, Harrison and Chase Garston, Zachary and Benjamin Charnish, Eleanor Hammill and Zoe Monoogian. Gordon was a proud World War II Veteran, Royal Canadian Navy. Upon graduating in economics from St. Patrick's College, Carleton University, he received the Governor General's Academic Award. He went on to have a distinguished career as Director, Industry Product Division, Statistics, Canada. A highly intelligent "self-made man", Gordon had many talents, yet he was always humble and kind. Often described as a gentleman, he believed in the values of hard work and mutual respect. Gordon enjoyed cottaging and had a great love of family and nature. He will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank Embassy West Senior Living and Elisabeth Bruyere hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer. (Ottawa Citizen 02 Mar 2019)
