McKECHNIE, James Alexander (Sandy) - Passed away peacefully at his home in Victoria, B.C. on January 9, 2005 in his 84th year. He was born in Toronto on August 25, 1921 and has lived in Victoria since 1980. Sandy is survived by his loving wife Sally, daughter Mary, son-in-law Bill, granddaughter Robin, sister Elizabeth Ridler of Toronto; and predeceased by his son Jim in 1982. He was a graduate of the University of Toronto, and served overseas in World War II as a Lieutenant in the RCNVR aboard HMCS Algoma. Sandy was a longtime member of the Toronto Skating Club and was a past president of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club. He was a former Canadian and North American men's figure skating champion. Sandy was an enthusiastic golfer and member of Uplands Golf Club in Victoria, B.C. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held in Victoria at Uplands Golf Club on Saturday January 15th at 4 p.m. Interment will take place in Toronto at a later date.
