Gordon Ian (Sam) Mcmillan

Died: 05 Apr 2019, Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

MCMILLAN, Gordon Ian (Sam) - Passed away peacefully on April 5, 2019 at 86 years old, with his family by his side. Gordon was born on July 11, 1932 in Lachine, Que., to Robert and Margaret (Walker) McMillan, both predeceased. Gordon joined the Navy in 1953-1968 and served on the Maggie, Bonaventure, Skeena and Provider. He served with VT 40, VU 32, VS 881, HU 21, HS 1, HS 50, VP 449 and VP 405. In 1969 he transferred to the Air Force and moved to CFB Greenwood where he became a Flight Engineer. He retired in 1986 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Gord enjoyed many sports throughout his lifetime, especially golf and curling and was an avid volunteer in these sports. He was predeceased by his brothers, Doug and Alwin McMillan. He is survived by his wife Claudette (Gareau) McMillan of Dartmouth; daughter, Sharon (Mike Black) of Alberta; son, Kevin (Nancy McClaire) of Cole Harbour; sister, Beryl of Mississauga, Ont.; brother, Bruce of Bedford; five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Camp Hill, Halifax for the warm and loving care they gave to Gord and his family. Gord donated his body to science and is at Dalhousie University in Halifax. There will be a memorial in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEIII, on April 29th at 1:30 p.m.
