Halifax Based Sailor Killed - Able Seaman Thomas Allan Rees, 21, a crewmember of HMCS St. Croix currently berthed in Halifax, was one of five persons killed in a two-car head-on collision near Orillia, Ont., Wednesday. Rees, driver of one of the cars, was on a three-week vacation visiting relatives at Orillia when the accident occurred. Names of the other persons killed in the accident were not released. Rees, who joined the navy in 1955, is survived by his wife, Carolyn, Lunenburg; parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Herbert Rees, Chippawa Village, Ont., and three brothers, including Petty Officer Edward Rees of Halifax, and a sister. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 14 May 1959 / Researched by George Newbury)
