VERES, John -age 86 of Fort Ellis. It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of John Veres. John is survived by his five children, Wanda Watson (Aubrey), Dianne McKeag (Ron), John L. Veres (Marie), Joe Veres (Tamara), and Sandra Veres-Dyer (David). John was a loving husband and father. He was happiest when surrounded by his children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 Great-Grandchildren. John served in the Royal Canadian Navy, attaining rank of Master (Chief) Warrant Officer during his 32 years of service. He was a highly skilled woodsman who had a great respect for nature and the environment. He was instrumental in the fight to save Old Growth Forests in Nova Scotia, and was a leader in the prevention of the building, and operation of a soil remediation facility in Fort Ellis. He was a lover of the outdoors, a respectful hunter and fisher. John was a true craftsman, being a self-taught oil painter, wood carver, knife maker and accomplished in the craft of bow making. He was a skilled archer, volunteering his time as an instructor with the Bow Hunters Instructors of Nova Scotia. John was a natural born teacher with a love, and desire, to pass on his vast knowledge and skills to his family, friends and all who showed interest. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service to be held 2pm Friday, April 5th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth.
