CANNING, Isaac Garfield (Garry) - Friends & Family sadly announce the passing of Garry, second son of John Alexander Canning and Ethel Bowers. Garry was educated in Saskatchewan at King Edward School and at Moose Jaw Technical where he earned a certificate in drafting and carpentry. Garry served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a Veteran of World War II. He retired a Chief Petty Officer, First Class. He also worked at Government House in Victoria for 13 years as Executive Chef. Garry enjoyed cooking, bridge and trips to Reno. He is predeceased by his parents, brother, Chester, and sisters, Grace and Betty. Many thanks to the Hutchinson, Pednault and Tysowski families. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Chief and Petty Officers Veterans Assistance Society. The Funeral Service will be conducted in McCall Bros Funeral Home, on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 at 3:00 p.m., the Reverend Canon Andrew Gates officiating. Interment will take place at Royal Oak Burial Park on Monday, February 3rd at 10:00 a.m. (Victoria Times Colonist 25 Jan 2014)
Garry served in the RCNVR (service # V34479) on 05 Jun 1942 and after the war transferred to the RCN. He served in the RCN until 31 Aug 1967.
