COTTRELL, Raymond Bruce - The family wishes to announce that Raymond Bruce Cottrell passed away on June 24, 2006 at 5:10 a.m. Raymond was born in Fort William, Ontario to Alfred and Jessie Cottrell, and attended Isabella School. He lost his best friend, his mother, who died of a heart attack at the age of 32 giving birth to twins. Four years later, he lost his other best friend, his nanny Milestone. He joined the work force early in life and worked for Abitibi Camp 40 on the Onaman River, the Pigeon Timber Company as a cookee at Neys, Ontario, and at the Prince Arthur Hotel as a Bell hop. Raymond then joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944. He travelled to Naden, BC for basic training and volunteered / transferred East to Halifax and served on the HMCS Saskatoon where he was involved in the Triangle Run, and later he was transferred to the HMCS Ville Du Quebec and went overseas for the North African Campaign. Raymond received an Honourable Discharge from the Navy in 1945, and returning home to Thunder Bay, he served on the Thunder Bay Police Force for over thirty years. In 1950, Raymond married Frances Marie Egan in St. Vital, Winnipeg, and later settled in Thunder Bay. They were married for fifty three years. Ray was a family man and raised three sons: Randy, Bobby, and Douglas and daughter Barbara. Over the years his joy was Camp 2 "The Farm" in South Gillies. Ray loved hunting and fishing, providing many moose for his family. He loved fishing and his family enjoyed many, many meals of freshly caught fish. Ray loved to cook and the family enjoyed many memorable meals of delicious food. What a Chef! Raymond is survived by his son Randy (Carol) and family, Douglas (Susan) and family; and his daughter Barbara (Dennis) Fralick. He was predeceased by his wife Frances (Pat); son Bobby; mother; grandmother; and brother. Funeral Services for the late Raymond Cottrell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006 in the Chapel of the Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Venerable Archdeacon Mark Conliffe. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.
