BENNETT, William T. - Born: 1903 at Channel-Port Aux Basques, Nfld, Died: 07 Dec 1995, North Sydney, NS - 92, 9 Pleasant St., North Sydney, died December 7, 1995, at home. Born at Channel, Nfld., he was a son of the late Edward and Mary (Thornhill) Bennett. He served with the RCMP Marine division prior to entering the Royal Canadian Navy. He served as chief petty officer on HMCS Husky and HMCS Otter during the Second World War. He was a self-employed fisherman out of North Sydney for a number of years, before working with the Department of Public Works, North Sydney until retirement. He was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney and a life member of Royal Canadian Legion branch 19, North Sydney. He was an avid outdoorsman. Surviving are his wife, the former Martha Hopkins; daughter, Gloria MacKay, North Sydney; sons, William, Big Bras d'Or; David, North Sydney; grandchildren, Gloria, Tanya, David Jr., Donald. He was predeceased by a brother, Wilson; sister, Ida; grandson, William. Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Sunday in St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, Rev. David Hann officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
