MACDOUGALL, James Roderick Parr - We are saddened to announce that Inverness has lost its last Veteran of the Second World War. James Roderick "Parr" MacDougall passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Parr was born in Foot Cape 93 years ago and grew up We are saddened to announce that Inverness has lost its last Veteran of the Second World War. James Roderick "Parr" MacDougall passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Parr was born in Foot Cape 93 years ago and grew up in the Red Rows. At the age of 18 he joined the Navy and served on the HMCS Burlington, where he saw action in the Atlantic while protecting the convoys. After the war he worked in the hard rock mines of Northwestern Canada before returning home to the mines of Inverness and to marry the love of his life, Kaye. In 1967 they opened the Ceilidh Restaurant and later Central Clothing, all the time whilst Parr worked as a foreman for the Department of Highways. In the late 60s Parr and Kaye moved to their home at Broad Cove Banks where Parr was often seen riding his horses. Parr was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was a lifelong member and strong supporter of Captain Angus L. MacDonald Royal Canadian Legion Branch 132 in Inverness. He was instrumental in establishing the Ceilidh Trail CB Club Park in Inverness and was a staunch Tory and a proud Cape Bretoner. Parr is survived by children, Angus, Orillia, Ont.; and Rose Annette (Peter Hart), Inverness; grandchildren, Gaelen, Liam and Breton Parr; many nieces and nephews. Parr was predeceased by his wife, Kaye; sisters, Catherine (Kaye), Margaret, Annie Mae, Isabel, Alena and Stella; brothers, Dougall "Pill", Alex L., Ronald "Ran", George "Nick" and Bernie. Parr loved his family, his church and his dog Rocky. He will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25th in Stella Maris Church, Inverness from 10-10:45 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m.; Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
