NOBLE, Stanley Gordon - Peacefully, on April 27, 2019 at St. Catharines General Hospital in his 96th year. Dearly loved husband of Reena "Slim" for 73 years. Cherished father of Nancy McKibbin Gray (late Ian). Proud grandfather of Laura Noble Wohlgemut (Mat). Super proud great-grandfather of Isabel and Maeve. Predeceased by his parents Eva and Gordon, sister Jean and brother James. A veteran of WWII, my father proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy on a Corvette during the Battle of the Atlantic; a source of many great stories and enduring friendships. When he first met my mother, it was love at first sight and devotion to the end. When the war was over Dad went to college, married, worked for a time at Niagara Home Furniture before joining the Civil Service which led to a successful career as a Foreign Service Officer in Immigration. Until retirement my parents mainly lived overseas in many different postings including Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, the Hague and Los Angeles. On returning to Canada they were able to live their dream as a young couple to live on the Niagara River Parkway and were active in community life for many years. My father was a member of St. Andrews Church, a trustee of HMCS Sackville, the Royal Naval Association, the Niagara on the Lake branch of the Legion and the Niagara Lodge. Our family would like to thank all those who helped care for my father these past few months. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 342 Simcoe Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake on Thursday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Naval Memorial Trust, HMCS Sackville.
