They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
THIBODEAU, Simon Joseph, Ordinary Seaman, V2555, RCNVR, MPK - 22 Jan 1942, HMCS ANDRÉE DUPRÉ - son of Henry and Gertrude Thibodeau, of Saint John, NB.
On 22 Jan 1942, HMCS ANDRÉE DUPRÉ, an examination vessel in the Halifax area, was lowering the ship's boat to board the SS Empire Latimore. When the boat was released, the after falls did not let go. As the ship was still making way (less than 1 knot), the boat swung around on the after falls and capsized. All the boats crew were recovered with the exception of OS Thibodeau. A search was conducted but his body was not recovered.
