Clifford R. Bishop

Canadian Merchant Marine

Died: 10 May 2019, Halifax, Nova Scotia

BISHOP, Clifford R. - Age 94, Halifax. It is with deep sorrow we announce Clifford's passing in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, on May 10, 2019. Cliff was a loving husband and father; known for his sense of humour and always willing to lend a helping hand. Clifford, and his wife Marjorie, enjoyed square dancing with the Stardusters Club for many years. His happiest times were spent at the cottage with a cup of tea watching the ducks on Mack Lake. A veteran of the Canadian Merchant Navy, Clifford served aboard the hospital ship, Lady Nelson. After the war, he worked at the Halifax Shipyard in the stores department, and then became Chief Store Keeper at the Dartmouth Marine Slips. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Marjorie; sons, Brian (Atsinak) and Ian (James Durnnian); grandchildren, Andrew, Christopher and Malaya (Alex Draper); great-grandchild, Michael; and sister, Pauline Billard. He was predeceased by brother, Foster Bishop; sisters, Ellen Canning, Irene Heisler, Frances Morrison, Evelyn Slack and (his favourite) Joan Logan. Clifford's family wishes to thank the nursing staff, recreational therapists and support staff of 5-East, Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building. We are forever grateful for the support and care you gave Clifford. No funeral at family request; interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory can be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 14 May 2019)
