NIELSON, Raymond Earl - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Raymond Earl Nielson, 74 of Lower Sackville. Ray passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 17, 2019 at the VG hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 16, 1944 in Regina Sask. to the late Ralph and Kay (Katherine Bieber). Ray joined the navy in 1961 at the age of 17, stationed in Halifax, where he met his future bride. On June 27, 1964 he married Carolyn Osborne and together they raised 4 spirited children. Ray was passionate about Lacrosse Nova Scotia, dating back to his early days in Shannon Park and was instrumental in helping it grow in Lower Sackville and remained an avid volunteer for many years. He owned his own business for 26 years and worked for Canada Post for 13 years, retiring in 2011. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn, children Raymond (Coralee) Eastern Passage, Glen, Lr Sackville, NS, Wayne (Maria) Lr Sackville, NS, Lisa (Rob)Coral Springs, FL. Grandchildren, Ryan (Heather), Dominique (John), Jennifer, Colin, Alex, Scott, Riley and Logan. Proud Great Grandfather to Jake. Siblings Roger, Ontario, Ruth, Saskatchewan and Hope, Saskatchewan. Many nieces, nephews. Ray and his family wish to express their gratitude for the incredible kindness of the Nova Scotia Palliative Care team, especially the unwavering support of Barb Stewart. Cremation will take place under the care of Cole Harbour Funeral home and a private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to honour Ray can be made to QE2 Foundations for Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society
