In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
JACKSON, Harry Lloyd - Harry was born and raised in the Hillhurst district in Calgary, AB. At the age of 17, Harry enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942, serving as a Radar operator in the North Atlantic on Corvette ships until 1945. Following the war, in 1948, Harry married the love of his life, Joan Williams, who was the sister of Harry's best friend, Bob Williams. Together, Harry and Joan lived in Calgary, AB; Edmonton, AB; Burlington, ON; and Kelowna, BC. Harry worked for John Deere Ltd. for 42 years in a variety of positions. He retired in 1982 and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement - gardening, making wine, golfing, travelling, and swimming. Harry especially enjoyed golfing in the annual Hillsun golf tournament which was started in 1949 by his friends from the Hillhurst and Sunnyside neighbourhoods. Harry was predeceased by his wife, Joan, and his brother, Warren. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Vogt (John Riddell); son, Bob (Sue) Jackson; grandchildren: Peter (Kristinn), Thomas (Sara), Laura (Adam), and Kayla (Mike); great-grandchildren, Charlotte, and Sophie; nieces: Diane, Therese, Liz, Joan, and Kathy; and his nephews, Chris, and Greg. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
