Darrell was the son of Charles and Sarah Thompson. Darrell had 4 brothers, Irving of Westport; Eldon of Malden, Mass.; Elsbree of Lynn, Mass.; and Aden of New York. He also had 6 sisters: Inez (Mrs. William Webb) of Port Maitland; Miss Ina, Westport; Hazel (Mrs. George McDormand) of Westport; Cecelia (Mrs. H. Snowden), Mildred (Mrs. W. Pemberton, and Mrs. Reid, all of Somerville, Mass. He had a brother Charles who had predeceased his mother.
