JARVIS, William Herbert - William Herbert Jarvis, the Honourable, P.C., Q.C., Cornwall, Ontario. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, son of the late Garfield Jarvis and the late Nina McBean Jarvis. Survived by his wife Louisette (Morissette) Jarvis and her sister Louise Morissette, daughter Elizabeth of Victoria, B.C. and son Richard and his wife Deb of Kitchener, their mother Vivian Jarvis of Stratford, granddaughter Courtney and husband Trevor Thompson of Toronto, and grandson William Luke of Waterloo. Loving stepfather of Christine Morissette and great-grandfather of Frederick Thompson. He attended London Central Collegiate Institute and was appointed as a Naval Cadet (UNTD) RCN(R) and served at HMCS Prevost for UNTD 1949-1951. He graduated from University of Western Ontario with a BA in the spring of 1953, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. Graduated with a LLB in 1962 and admitted to the bar in 1964. Practiced as a lawyer in Stratford, from 1964-1972. He was elected as MP for the riding of Perth- Wilmot, serving from 1972 to 1984. He was appointed Minister of State for Federal-Provincial Relations in the Clark government of 1979-1980. He retired from politics in 1984 and served as President of the Progressive Conservative Party for four years before joining the law firm of McCarthy Tétrault in an advisory capacity.
