BOYD, Gordon F. - Gordon grew up in Isle Pierre and Vanderhoof. Because the older boys and young men were away in the war his teenage years were full of challenges and responsibilities beyond his years. In early 1945 he joined the army and then, after the war, the RCN. While in Victoria with the navy he met June Harrison and fell madly and permanently in love with her. They married in 1948. A few years later he used his naval engine room experience to begin a career as a stationary engineer with the BC Gov't where he worked until retirement. Most of his retirement was spent in Maple Ridge. Gordon was crushed by June's death in 1972. He was also predeceased by his son Danny in 1993 and all his siblings (Ben, Vera, Jean, Tommy, and Percy). He is survived by his son Rob (Gail), daughters Bonnie (Tom), Susan (Ron), Cindy (Ross), and daughter-in-law Karen as well as their families - including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In recent years Gordon's life was clouded by dementia and he received fine care from many professionals, volunteers, kind strangers, and fellow travelers.
