BRENNAN, Lena (née Yakymchuk) - age 90, passed away on September 5th, 2017 in The Magnolia Continuing Care Facility, Enfield. She was born in Grandview, Man., a daughter of the late Michael and Effie Yakymchuk. She was predeceased by her husband, Cyril, and her three brothers and four sisters and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She moved from Grandview as a young woman to the East Coast and enlisted in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service where she served as a sick berth attendant at the Royal Canadian Naval Hospital in Stadacona, Halifax, until the end of the war. She was a graduate of Miss Murphy's Business College and worked at various office jobs, retiring from the Canadian Coast Guard in 1984. Lena is survived by her sons, Bernie (Betty Ann), Kevin (Anne), both of Dartmouth; and Jim (Rachelle) of Moncton, N.B. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael, Lindsey, Allison and Lesley; and great-grandchildren, Jack and Ryan Brennan and Ivy and Lila King. The family would like to thank the staff on Honeysuckle Cottage at The Magnolia Continuing Care Facility for their compassionate care for Lena. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, September 9th at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, Windmill Road, Dartmouth with a reception to follow in the church hall. A private graveside interment will take place at a later time.
