CATHCART, Norman, AB, V70152, RCNVR, MPK - 14 Feb 1945, 29TH MTB FLOTILLA - Son of William and Margaret Cathcart, of Toronto, Ontario.
AB Cathcart was killed in a fire and resulting explosions on MTBs at Ostend, Belgium, his body was not recovered.
Able Seaman Norman Cathcart, 19, has been reported missing since Feb. 14 and is now presumed dead, according to the information received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Cathcart, 5 Rose Ave. Able Seaman Cathcart enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. in August, 1943, and started training at Charlottetown, P.E.I. in November of the same year. After training at Cornwallis he went overseas in June 1944, and was on duty with a torpedo boat. Born in Ireland, Able Seaman Cathcart came to Canada as a baby and attended Winchester Public School and Central Technical in Toronto. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Pte. William Cathcart, now at the Canadian Technical Training Corps. in Hamilton, and Jim at home, and by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Murray, Doris and Martha at home. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Toronto, Ontario.
