For Posterity's Sake A Royal Canadian Navy Historical Project
In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CAMPBELL, Walter Colin (Bud) - of Dartmouth, the son of the late Ellsworth and Ella Campbell, went to be with his beloved wife, Mary on September 18, 2019, at the age of 90. He never thought he was that old and he loved it when people thought he was only 70. Bud was always a military man at heart, always remembering his time in the Merchant Navy and RCN with great fondness. He served at the end of the Korean War. He always bragged about joining the Merchant Navy at 14; then when he started a family, he decided being at sea so much was not a good idea and so joined the RCN! After a major car accident, he was forced to leave the navy. He was determined not to let that hold him back. He went to work for Conrad Brothers, then Ferry Aviation and from there he went to work at Shearwater until he retired. Bud spent every winter in Florida. For those who knew him, he was a sun worshipper. Spring brought out the shorts as the nurses at Camp Hill can attest to. It was a challenge to see who would get the best tan. He always won. Bud will be remembered by those who knew him by his nod and smile. He will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren. His joy was his great-grandchild Douglas, he always had a smile when he visited. Bud was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Gaudet); children, Alice and Colin; his mother; father; and sister, Marion. He will be missed by his children, Donna (Danny) Stinson, Laura (Mac), and Art (Natasha); grandsons, Joe, Adam (Sara), Rob (Rose), and Colin; granddaughter, Candice; great-grandson, Douglas; as well, his sister, Barb Walker and several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24th in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, 767 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Bud spent many hours enjoying the gardens at Camp Hill. Memorial donations to Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Garden, QEII would be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Camp Hill who made his family feel at ease knowing he was well cared for. And thank you to the therapy dogs, mostly Gilbert and Norbert; they gave him so many laughs at a time in his life when he needed it.
