LEWIS, Peter Munro - age 56, of Lower Sackville formerly of North Sydney, N.S. passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019, at home surrounded by family after a lengthy battle with severe Diabetes. Peter was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy for over twenty-five years, serving as a Naval Combat Information Operator. He served under NATO for multiple deployments before retiring in 2006 as a Master Seaman. He was an avid hockey and Patriots fan, coach and volunteer. His greatest memories being with Sackville Minor Hockey, coaching his bantam teams and with the East Hants Jr B Penguins. Peter’s greatest love were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his mother: Susan Lewis, his wife Margie, his daughter and caregiver Coleen, sons, Joseph (Danielle) and Nicholas. Grandchildren: Hailey, Dallas, Charleigh and Frankie, and his special little friend and visitor, Gabe. Siblings: Harry, (Philomena), Margaret, Michael (Judy) Patsy (Victor), Brad (Patti) Suzanne (Kevin), Laverne (Jim), Scott (Jodi), special niece and nephews, James, Tish and Alex. Several nieces, nephews, in-laws, family and friends and fur baby Ellie. Peter was predeceased by his father: George Edward Lewis, in-laws Bernard and Mary MacDougall. Grandparents, Bill and Margaret Perry and Harry and Maude Lewis. We would like to thank the Renal Home Dialysis Unit, Staff of the QEII sites, VON especially Glynnis & Eden and Northwood Homecare for their outstanding care and service. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, with Father Patrick O’Neill officiating. A funeral reception will follow downstairs in the parish hall. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. A Celebration of Life will be held in Halifax, NS, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19 Poppy Fund, the North Sydney Food Bank, or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
