They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
SMITH, Kristin David - 23, Halifax and North Bay, Ont., died August 19, 1993, as the result of a mountain climbing accident on Cathedral Ledge, North Conley, N.H. Born in Hull, P.Q., he was the only child of Col. Preston R. and Betti Ann Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo. He graduated from Tantallon Junior High School in June 1984 and from Widdifield High School, North Bay in June 1988. He graduated in May 1992 with a bachelor degree in computer engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada, Kingston. He was attending naval training at the Technical University of Nova Scotia and the Canadian Forces Fleet School at CFB Halifax. He was an avid and experienced mountain climber, runner, skier, cyclist, scuba diver and all around superb athlete. He was also an artist, author, historian, lover of music and student humanity. He is survived by his paternal grandfather, Guy Preston, Balmoral, N.B.; an aunt and uncle; two cousins; numerous paternal great-aunts and uncles; a maternal great-aunt. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. George's Anglican Church, Head of St. Margaret's Bay, Rev. Capt. Robert Brinn and Padre Charlie Beck officiating. Burial will be in parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Terry Fox Marathon of Hope Foundation. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald, Wednesday 25 Aug 1993)
