PEACH, Howard Louis - It is with heavy hearts, that we the family, announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Howard Louis Peach. Howard, a lifelong resident of Port Morien, peacefully passed away, with his loving family by his side at Taigh Na Mara, in Glace Bay, on Saturday, March 21, 2015. Born in Port Morien, July 24, 1916, Howard was the son of the late John Henry and Mary Catherine (Boutilier) Peach. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien. Dad served his country, during the Second World War as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, achieving the rank of petty officer. He was a true family man, his wife, sons and their children were always his main priorities. Dad had a long and joyful life, enjoying the company of his many friends, neighbors and relatives. He was a fisherman and carpenter by trade; two of his passion were working and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, the love of his life ‘Gertie’, Gertrude (Nearing): his two sons, Howard (Aileen) and Doug (Gloria). He also leaves to mourn seven grandchildren, Stephen (Maryam), Desi (Shelia), Noel (Lindsay), Allison (Wayne) Pinhorn, Jared (Jill), Tara (Denis) Aucoin, James (Tammy); eight great-grandchildren, Aaron, Mena, Shaelyn, Deon, Charlie, Dani, Nate and Cohen, whom he loved so dearly and who brought him endless pride and joy. Howard is also survived by a brother-in-law, Clayton McRae; sister-in-law Amy Peach; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Howard was also predeceased by his sisters, Millie MacLeod, Hilda MacRae, Margaret Keefe, brothers, Wilfred, Johnny, Arthur, Bob, Jimmy, Harvey and grandson Keith. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid, celebrating Howard’s life, will be held 11a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Port Morien. All are welcome to join the family at a reception in the church hall immediately following the service. Interment will be at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Memorial donations in Dad’s memory may be made to charity of choice.
