TRINACTY, Edward Anthony (Ed) - Age 84, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully in Hants Community Hospital on October 21, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was a son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Kocis) Trinacty. Ed, as he was best known to the community, had a very active life in the Windsor area. He was born in Chatham Ont., on December 25, 1934. He made great light of being a Christmas baby. Growing up on a farm soon gave way to the lure of the sea and he joined the navy after high school forgoing his dream and young career as a baseball player. After a few short postings he made his way to Shearwater and the crew of the Bonaventure. In 1963 he settled in Windsor with wife, Maxine Dill and his young family. It did not take long for his sport background to take root. He was instrumental in forming the Windsor Minor Sports Association that operated baseball, hockey and figure skating. He became a coach, umpire and referee. As any great sports-minded and dedicated father, he spent many hours at the rink and on the ballfield supporting his children. When not coaching or officiating he was cheering on the sidelines. His community involvement did not end with children, he was a member and president of the Windsor Lions Club and an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion. After a brief posting in Chatham, N.B., he retired from the Canadian Armed Forces and was soon to be found at the Windsor Post Office. He always had a quick word or a jovial comment for post office patrons and often had candy for the younger ones. Well after the minor sport days he continued to coach, referee and umpire. He was a well-known umpire throughout Hants County and Valley area through the heydays of fastball. He resurrected senior hockey in Windsor as coach and manager of the Windsor Alpines in the Valley Hockey League. Ladies fastball was likely his most interesting coaching experience helping many young women learn their new sport and create a passion for the game. Ed enjoyed life to the fullest whether "holding court" at the Legion or socializing with family and friends. He loved his annual fishing trips, travelling in his camper with long visits in North Carolina to help at the "White House", spending time at the camp, helping Tina with her deliveries, babysitting the grandchildren and reading. His time prior to Christmas was always spent at the tree lot where people "had to buy a tree from Ed". When his health declined and he couldn't get far he could be found sitting on his front porch enjoying people going by taking great pleasure in the many honks, waves and drop-ins. He is survived by his children, Mike (Brenda), David (Kelly Sweet), Patti (Kenny Rippey), John (Sue Anderson and her children, Lauren and Mark), Tina (John Forbes and his children, Trisha and Alex); grandchildren, Melanie, Jill, Sophie, William, Natalie, Alisha, Kaeligh and Jaden. He was expecting a great-granddaughter in November; sister, Francis Lindsay; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; stepfather, Frank; brother, Joe; sister, Mary. While his last strike has been called and his whistle long put away he will be forever remembered by his loving family and the many friends and people whose lives he touched. Arrangements are under the care of Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King St., P.O. Box 2218, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. There will be a celebration of his life from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 27th, in the Royal Canadian Legion, 35 Empire Lane, Windsor. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the charity of choice.
