McTAVISH, Gordon Blaine - After a lengthy battle, the Honourable Gordon Blaine McTavish passed away peacefully in his sleep on February, 21, 2019, at the age of 94. Gordon is survived by his son Rob McTavish (Sue), cherished granddaughter Brannagh; daughter Sandra McTavish (Brett); numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Milly McTavish (nee Johnson); brothers, Douglas and Ian and sister Joan. At the age of 48 Gordon was appointed by the Attorney General as a Provincial Court Judge where he served honourably until his retirement at age 75. He was known to be a very fair Judge and very well liked by his peers and the Winnipeg Police Service. In his early years, Gord was passionately involved in the Manitoba horse racing industry at the Polo Park Racetrack and Assiniboia Downs; both as racehorse owner (Hy Macester) and a judge. Soon he was known to everyone as "The Judge". Gordon was also a world class curler, inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame, and lifetime member/past president of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg. Gordon loved Star Lake where all family spent many summers for 50 years. A genuine gentleman, Gordon was a people person who touched many lives in a very positive way; always willing to help and never missing an opportunity to be kind to those less fortunate. Generous and humble doesn't even begin to describe Gord. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gordon's name to Kidsport Winnipeg or the Alzheimer's Association. To honour Gordon we welcome family and friends to join us at Assiniboine Downs on Friday evening, July 12, 2019 where there will be a race dedicated to his memory. We can all get together and share our memories and stories of Dad. Bardal Funeral Home 204-774-7474 (Winnipeg Free Press 02 Mar 2019)
