Mel was a Prairie boy from Selkirk, Manitoba, who answered his country’s call in 1939, at the age of 18. He served in Halifax until 1943, when he was drafted to HMCS DUNDALK. He was discharged in 1945, and married Barbara, with whom he had a son, Darren. Mel built a successful career maintaining commercial weighing devices. At the age of 93, Mel is a resident of the Veteran’s Hospital, Camp Hill, Halifax, where he keeps up to date with political news, and tells the politicians where they are going wrong.
