McHATTIE, David Leslie - Age 81, of Greenwood, Kings Co. Born on September 19, 1937, and passed away at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton, on January 14, 2019. Born and raised in Toronto, Ont., Dave was the youngest son of the late John and Irene (Craig) McHattie. At the age of 19, he joined the R.C.N. and served on land bases and several ships in the fleet. It was while he was in Cornwallis he met Mary and they married in 1960 and settled in Dartmouth where they raised Christopher and Tracey. On retiring from the navy he entered the mature student program at St. Mary’s University. On graduation he joined the Dept. of Education as Senior Councilor-Student Aid. When he and Mary retired they moved to Greenwood and became “Snowbirds” wintering in Lakeland, Fl. Dave was always civic minded and involved with Amateur Radio, CPO’s and Lions Club. He was also a founding member of the Dartmouth Colts Hockey Team. He coached hockey and lacrosse in his early years. He leaves behind are wife, Mary; children, Christopher & Tracey (Craig Hogan); grandsons, Matthew and Conner; great-grandson, Jack, sister, Shirley Stepheniuk of Toronto. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will rest in Stadaconna Chapel until he goes back to the sea he loved. A service will be held at the Kingston Lions Hall, 1482 Veterans Drive, Kingston, on Thursday January 17, from 1:30 - 3:30pm. No flowers by request, donations in his memory may be made to your local food bank.
