MINCKLER, Harold Murray - was born in Victoria, BC on 01 Mar 1921. He joined the RCN on 16 Sep 1940 and served in the Navy during World War Two in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. He also served during the Korean War in HMCS Sioux. While serving in HMS RAMILLIES, Murray witness the meeting between Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt, which resulted in the United States giving aid to the allies. He experienced intense attacks by enemy aircraft while serving in the British destroyer HMS ICARUS and the sinking of a submarine when serving in HMCS VILLE DE QUEBEC on convoy duty near Algiers, North Africa. He remembers his ship "went right through the submarine which split in two and went down". He was a member of the Esquimalt Dockyard Legion Branch 172 for 50 years. Murray passed away on 22 Feb 2003.
