LESLIE, Gerald - passed away peacefully on the morning of December 7, 2019 with his family by his side, after a fulfilling 91 years. He was a son of Ronald and Mildred Leslie. A long term resident of Dartmouth, Lower Sackville and Mount Uniacke. He was a proud Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy, of which he served for over 20 years, including active service in the Korean War in assignments that put him in harms way. Originally born in New Brunswick, he spent his childhood and early years on Deer Island before signing up for Military service. Dad spent his years after the Armed Forces in sales and marketing in the construction business, nurturing many friendships and relationships in the community. He was an active speaker to schools for Remembrance Day events and participant of the Royal Canadian Legion and all its events. He worked with the community of Mount Uniacke in the concept, design, development and building of Bell Park, which is used and appreciated by many for its beautiful walking trails, views and a pristine lake. He additionally participated in the breakfast program in the local elementary school for many years, and was on the Heritage Committee in his community. Dad loved people, being social, sharing his views and engaging others to laugh. He mostly laughed at himself. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Winters (Leslie) (Rob); sons, Blaine Leslie (Jane) and Steve Leslie (Donna); grandchildren, Christopher, Jeannine, Brett, Lauren, Brad, Brian, Brittany, Brennen; and six great-grandchildren. Besides both parents, Gerald was predeceased by brother, Ronnie (Edith); and sister, Irma. Special thanks to all the staff at the Veterans' Camp Hill Memorial Building, QEII where he was a resident for almost five years. Special thanks to the palliative team who guided his last few days with compassion, tears and ongoing care. A celebration of life will be held on January 4th, 2020, 11 a.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion, Sackville Branch, 45 Sackville Cross Rd., Lower Sackville.
