COADY, John Joseph (Jack) - 83, 14 Idlewilde Rd., Halifax, died Friday in the Halifax Infirmary. He was born in Tor Bay, Nfld. He was founder and fire chief of the Armdale Volunteer Fire Department for more than 25 years. He was a life member of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving as a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. He retired as a stationary engineer with HMC Dockyard. He was a member of Rockcliffe Senior Citizens' Club, St. John the Baptist Church and a former member of the Holy Name Society. He is survived by his second wife, the former Vera (Sherlock) Collins; a son, Gerald, Halifax; four step-sons, John, Ottawa; Samuel, Sackville; Wayne, Newfoundland; Gary, Halifax; a daughter, Eileen (Mrs. Robert Parsons), Fairview; a step-daughter, Carol (Mrs. Blair Martin), Sackville; a brother, Gus, Tor Bay; two sisters, Eileen, Frances, both of Newfoundland; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Gertrude Chamberlain; an infant daughter, Rose-Marie. The body is in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
