In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LUTZ, Andrew - On December 28, 2016 Andrew Lutz passed away peacefully, at home, with his sister Janice at his side. Predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice in 2010, Andy will be sadly missed by his sons Bob Lutz of Sarnia, ON and Doug (Mallory) Lutz of Ra'anana, Israel; grandchildren Christopher (Tatyana) Lutz, Catherine (Mark) Chabot, Sarah Lutz and Noah Lutz; great-grandchildren Mika, Ryan, Sam and Aca; sisters Margaret Moroz and Janice Lutz of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews; and friends. Andy was born June 23, 1925 in Kamen Kashersk, in present day Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada in 1929 with his mother, older sister Irene and brother Bill where they joined their father in Winnipeg. The family settled in the north end of Winnipeg where younger sisters Margaret and Janice were born. While in grade 12 at St. John's Technical High School, Andy enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. in 1943 and went on active duty in April 1944. Andy served as a visual signalman in the R.C.N. on several ships in the North Sea around Scotland and Norway. At the end of the war, Andy went back to finish grade 12 and then proceeded to attend the University of Manitoba where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. While playing in an Edmonton music festival in 1946, Andy met Alice, the love of his life and they married on September 4, 1948. Andy and Alice spent 20 years in Regina where sons Bob and Doug were born. An eventual move back to Winnipeg brought them full circle, reuniting them with their extended families, most of whom had remained in Winnipeg. Andy was a prostate cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor. In keeping with Andy's wishes there will be no funeral service. The family will gather for a private memorial at a later date. Donations may be made in Andy's memory to a charity of your choice. (Winnipeg Free Press 07 Jan 2017)
