CRANDALL, Lloyd William Harding (Bud) - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lloyd William Harding "Bud" Crandall, beloved husband of Helen (Petryshen) Crandall of Carter's Point, N.B., at the Saint John Regional Hospital on September 5th, 2012. He was born the son of Milton and Mary (Rayworth) Crandall on September 30th, 1923. He graduated from Moncton High School, and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. He graduated B.Sc. from Mount Allison University, after which he worked for Proctor and Gamble; as well as Ford Motors in Saint John. In 1957, he began his career as a Chemistry teacher at Saint John High School, retiring in 1979. After retirement, he became manager of the Saint John Animal Rescue League for several years, until he retired from that position as well, in 1987. Bud moved to Carter's Point after retirement, to be closer to his beloved grandchildren. He built his home and created a wonderful garden estate where every tree had a story, and he loved living there, calling it his "little piece of Heaven". During his long retirement, and to the end of his life, he enjoyed family, gardening, bird watching, and crosswords. He never stopped reading, thinking about new ideas, inquiring, and discussing the issues of the day. Bud attended Kingston United Baptist Church, and was formerly an active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, where he was in the choir, on the Board of Finance, taught Sunday School, and was involved with children as a parent leader working with cub scout and boy scout activities. He was an accomplished sailor, and taught sailing to young people for several summers at the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club in the 1960's. He pursued many interests throughout his life. He was an environmentalist before it was fashionable to do so, and was a member of the Conservation Council for years. As a World War II veteran, he remained a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62, and, following in his father’s footsteps, was "Worshipful Master" of Albion Lodge, #1 in 1967. Bud was predeceased by his parents, first wife Esther Elizabeth Crandall, his youngest son, Clyde, and his brothers Bob and Don. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen of Carter's Point, N.B.; daughter Susan (David) of Halifax, N.S.; sons Scott (Bronwyn) of Long Reach, N.B.; Brett (Linda) of Maple Ridge, B.C.; grandsons Jud of Saint John, N.B. and Caleb of Fredericton, N.B.; and granddaughter Wren of Vancouver, B.C.; his step-family including daughter Kim Petryshen (Will), Paul Petryshen (Tracy), grandchildren John, Alisha and Kristen Petryshen, and great grandchildren Austin and Dreyson, all of Saint John; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB (646-2424). There will be visitation on Sunday, September 9 at the funeral home from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at Kingston United Baptist Church, 3935 Route 845, Kingston, NB (636-1145) at 1:00 PM Monday, September 10, with a visitation at 12:00 noon preceding the service. Interment will follow at Harding’s Point Loyalist Cemetery, and a reception will be held after interment at the James Williams Community Hall, 2560 Route 845, Carter’s Point, N.B. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kingston United Baptist Church, Canadian Cancer Society, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
