BURRELL, Samuel Arthur (Sam) - Melmerby Beach, Pictou Co., passed away February 2, 2020 in Glen Haven Manor Nursing Home. Born in Windsor, he was the only son of Samuel Halsay and Mildred Anne (Fletcher) Burrell. Sam retired with 24 years service with the Royal Canadian Navy. He also was a member of the Little Harbour Fire Department for 25 years; member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 New Glasgow and the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Admiral Murray Branch. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life of 34 years, Anita (Beaton) Burrell. Surviving are daughter, Janice (David) Chambers, Falmouth; grandchildren, Evan (Brittni), Alex (Sarah), Samantha (Mitchell), and Johnathan (Melissa); and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Carmen, Jeremy and Ryan. He always had a special spot for his cousin "Cookie" Elizabeth (Gerald) Schultz of Dartmouth. Sam enjoyed being able to spend winters in Florida soaking up the sun with a large group of friends and hanging out at the local Legion in the summer. Sam especially enjoyed going on roller coasters with his grandchildren and living life to the fullest when he was able. We would like to thank Glen Haven staff for their generosity over the past two years. A special note of appreciation to his best friend and brother-in law, Bernie Beaton, for the special attention and all his support over the past few years. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, in the spring.
