STONE, Robert Philips - It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of long-time Calgary resident, Bob Stone, on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Agapé Hospice in Calgary. Bob was born in Norway House, Manitoba, the fourth child of Ervin and Nellie Stone. He grew up in Ottawa and spent his summers at the beloved family cottage on Charleston Lake. Bob was proud to serve his country in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. In 1946, Bob fell in love with Alberta and spent the rest of his life here. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1950; and in 1951 he married Anne Petryni. Most of his working life was spent in the Oil and Gas industry, where he was a well-known Landman. In his retirement years, he loved his vacations to Hawaii and Las Vegas; and especially to his cottage on Sand Lake, Ontario, where he spent many happy summers. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Anne; two daughters, Julia (Fred) Payne and Nina (Bryan) Wyrostok; as well as four grandchildren, Scott (Leah) Payne, MarySue (Jason) Henneberry, Kate (Mike) Noppers, and Claire Wyrostok; and four great-grandchildren. He is survived also by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents and five siblings. He was an extraordinarily generous and loving man, very devoted to family and friends; and a man of great integrity. He had a terrific sense of humour and wit; and maintained till the end that he had been blessed with a perfect life. He will be missed by all who knew him. Private Funeral Services were held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Bob’s honour may be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 Telephone: (403) 282-6588. Sleep well, Brave Heart. In living memory of Robert Stone, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial.
