DELAHUNT, William Gerard - 96, of the Veterans’ Health Centre and formerly of Butler Street, Moncton, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late John and Maude (Fitzpatrick) Delahunt. A Veteran of WWII, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy and was a retired Supervisor, Electrical Department of CNR with over 44 years’ service. Bill attended St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church and served his church in various capacities over the years. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, watching sports, time at the family cottage in Pointe du Chene and socializing with family and friends. Bill will be sadly missed by his wife of over 72 years, Kathleen (Hickey) Delahunt; children, Karen O’Brien (Frank), Brian Delahunt (Heather), Dianne Smith (Ed), Kevin Delahunt (Cheryl) Terry Delahunt (Patti) and Krista Sinton (Shawn). Grandchildren, Christopher (Tania), Shawn (Kim), Scott (Carrie) Delahunt, Aaron O’Brien (Misty), Becky Miedema (Ian), Ryan Smith, John (Katie), Spenser (Priscilla) and Glenn Delahunt, Kathleen Maroon (Rob), Katelyn MacDougall (Ian), Lauren Delahunt (Alex), Stephanie and Melissa Sinton; great grandchildren, Emma and Brady O’Brien, Jaclyn, Alexis, Madeline, Brayden, Quinn and Brianne Delahunt, William and Patrick Miedma, Nora, Ezra, Anna and Sawyer Delahunt, Jay Maroon, and Brynn MacDougall, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Edith, Eileen and twin sister, Marie and brothers, Jack, Gordon, Harry and Leonard. Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Mass to celebrate and honour Bill’s life will be held from St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church (Botsford and Queen Streets) on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 am with Rev. Allison Carroll presiding. Reception in the Church Hall following Mass. Interment will be in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Irishtown in the spring. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Bill’s memory to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Ray of Hope Needy Kitchen would be appreciated.
