DAUPHINEE, Douglas Gordon - Capt. Douglas Gordon Dauphinee, MBE, 60, of Halifax, died Wednesday in the Halifax Infirmary. Born in Moncton, he was the son of Mrs. Florence (Slator) Dauphinee, Victoria, B.C., and the late Enden Guy Dauphinee. He moved with his family to Halifax at an early age and received his education in Halifax schools. He began his career at sea at the age of 19, on the Cable Ship "Lord Kelvin" where he remained for several years. He joined the Canadian National Steamships and sailed on the "Lady boats" during the Second World War. He served with the Canadian Merchant Navy and was awarded the MBE in 1945. He became Master Mariner in 1946, and joined the department of nation defence in HMC Dockyard, Halifax, and in 1949 and served as pilot for several years. He was senior master of naval auxiliary vessels until his retirement in 1973. Surviving besides his mother, are his wife (Ruth); two sons, David, Ontario; Daniel, Manitoba; a step-daughter, Nancy (Mrs. P.N. Llewelllyn), Halifax; a step-son, William O'Connell, Prince Edward Island; two sisters, Doris Dauphinee, and Inez Dauphinee, both of Victoria, B.C.; and one grandchild. The body is at Snow's Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Shad Bay. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Shad Bay.
