YAKIMISCHAK, Marian Adele (née KEILBACK) - Beloved sister, aunt, and friend passed away in Winnipeg, on March 10, 2020, after a long struggle with dementia. Adele was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Mary Ann Keilback; husband Orest; brother, Jack Keilback; and sisters-in-law Paula and Pat Keilback. She is survived by her brother, Jim, of Regina; nephews, Curt (Linda), Brian (Lana), Drew (Dawn), Reid, Jay; and nieces, Lois, Janet (Chris), Ginny, Andrea (Mike), and Brenda (Kevin). Adele was born in Cloverleaf, Manitoba on September 27, 1929, the younger sister to Jack and Jim, and a proud descendant of the Selkirk Settlers. At age 13, the family moved to Winnipeg, where Adele completed her schooling and got her first job as a typist at Radio Oil. Later, an exciting career opportunity with the federal government drew her to Ottawa for several years. Upon returning to Winnipeg, she worked for the Research Branch of Fisheries and Oceans, retiring in 1989. In October, 1974, she married Orest Yakimischak. Family and friends were very important to Adele. From the beginning, she was surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles, and the close connections that developed culminated in several family reunions that Adele helped to organize. Friendships from her schooldays continued into adulthood. Always very active in the community, she and Orest were longtime volunteers with the Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association's bowling league. Both worked tirelessly to obtain heritage designation for the site of the Manitoba Glassworks that was founded in Beausejour by her paternal grandfather. Adele served in the Women's Reserve Navy (WRENS), and was a member of Windsor Park United Church. She was an avid Blue Bomber fan, and along with her husband, helped out at many Bomber Alumnae functions. Our warm, young-at-heart aunt travelled extensively, loved to ski, curl, dance and visit. She excelled at knitting, and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, but her real passion was her furry friends - the dogs and cats in her life. Adele's family thanks the staff at Actionmarguerite for the outstanding care and compassion shown to our dear aunt and sister. A funeral service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to donate to the Winnipeg Humane Society, or the charity of their choice. (Winnipeg Free Press 14 Mar 2020)
