COUPE, Roy Stewart - 92. it is with great sadness that we announce his passing on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Halifax on October 2, 1918, he was the son of the late Lillian Fredericks. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939-1966. He served in both the Second World War and the Korean War. He retired from the service holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer and was a lifetime member of the Chief's and PO's Association. He enjoyed many Fridays playing bridge with the boys. He and his loving wife Marian attended many a New Year's Eve party, as well as numerous social events at the Windsor Park Mess. In 2010, he was very proud to have his family around him as he was honoured to lay a wreath in memory of the sinking of the HMCS Weyburn on which he served. The ceremony was held at the Peregrine Club as part of the RCN's 100-year anniversary. He was predeceased by sisters, Kathleen, Verna and Gladys. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marian (Handley). Also survived by the apple of his eye, his loving daughter, Donna (Lawlor); son-inlaw, Stephen; and grandchildren, Stephen (Claudia) and Christopher (Tammy). He was also very grateful to have been blessed with great-grandchildren, Ryan and Katie. Burial will take place in St. George's Cemetery, Head of St. Margaret's Bay.
Ships served in: HMCS WEYBURN - He was serving in HMCS Weyburn as a LS at the time of her sinking. He survived the sinking of HMCS Weyburn
