In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MORRISON, William James (Bill) - passed away unexpectedly due to complications following an elective hip replacement. Our thanks to the expert support teams at the ICU of the Civic campus of the Ottawa Hospital for all their skill and valent efforts to have a different outcome. Survived by his wife and best friend for 54 years, Sherry Graves-Morrison. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Stewart (Bette). A long-standing equestrian, Bill’s love of horses was a mainstay in his life and getting back riding was one of his key goals. His love of animals also included the enjoyment of his furry canines as he was instrumental in our adopting a series of five dogs which increased the enjoyment of our life immensely. A people person, with a wry sense of humor, Bill considered his many long-standing friends as part of his “life’s blessings”. A military officer in the reserves, a great salesman and entrepreneur, Bill enjoyed life in many places from Winnipeg to Belleville, Philadelphia to Oakville, then Montreal and finally Ottawa/Russell. Fiercely independent and self reliant, Bill’s greatest fear would be to lose the ability to maintain his independence and freedom. Throughout his life Bill continued his love of reading, mainly British naval history, and 2nd world war adventures. He enjoyed traveling and was keen to experience different cultures and customs. Plans to return to England were always on the short list. My companion, with his unwavering support and steadfast devotion, will be sorely missed….my life is all the better for having him by my side for these many years. As per his wishes, cremation took place in Ottawa at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services. Later in April, friends and relatives will be asked to come together to raise a glass or two in his honour and celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or Veterans Emergency Transition Services or a charity of your choice.
