In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
DONOVAN, David - Age 85 of Dartmouth, passed away April 15, 2020 in Hants Community Hospital in Windsor. Born on January 10, 1935 in Ottawa, Ont., he was the son of David and Ruby Winnifred (Gifford) Donovan. David led an exciting life. He traveled the world in the Navy, where he served 29 years. After retiring, he continued with his love of ships and the ocean, and worked for the Halifax Shipyards. David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed many summers with them on Prince Edward Island. David was known by his grandchildren as the best storyteller out there, and would fascinate them with stories from his travels. An avid reader and expert at crossword puzzles, he was never short for words. He loved all sports, especially hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs. It brought David so much joy to meet his great-grandson, Eoin, last summer. He will be greatly missed by all members of his family. David is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Catherine "Betty" (MacDonald). David was a loving father to his daughters, Nancy Stacey and Linda Donovan. He was the adored grandfather to Justine Stacey, Stephen Budgen (Jessica), Emily Stacey (Joe), Krista Bugden (Chris), and Amanda Bugden (Tim); and great-grandfather to Eoin Bugden. He will be greatly missed by his brother in-law, Hector; his nieces, Wendy MacDonald, Michelle Donovan; nephews, David MacDonald, James Donovan and their families. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, James; and sisters, Maralyne and Heather. Due to the times, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation. (Halifax Chronicle-Herald 20 Apr 2020)
