For Posterity's Sake A Royal Canadian Navy Historical Project
In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
GEARY, Beatrice Mary (Trix) (née SCHREIBER) - age 95, passed away peacefully in hospital on March 10, 2020 in Wolfville, NS. Trix was born in Sudbury, ON and spent her childhood in Port Credit, Erindale and the Georgian Bay, ON. She worked in Toronto as a secretary before joining the Canadian Navy as a WREN in 1944. For 2 years Trix worked in signals using semaphore to message the convoys in Halifax harbour and made a contribution to the war effort. She met Lt Cmdr. Neville John Geary at a dance held at the Royal York Hotel in 1946, they married in 1947. Her days in the navy were very happy ones and one of her favourite sayings later life was - 'I won the War'! Trix had many lifelong friends from the navy and kept in touch with them wherever life took them. After her husband Neville (Monk) died in 1971, Trix made her permanent home Ottawa, living in trendy Westboro, with the wonderful community at The Barclay. She joined various volunteering charities and took part in the Old Grey Mare's ski marathon for several years. In Trix's later years, she was still able to indulge her love of birds and nature by long walks and canoe trips in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter, which she was able to do until age 89! Since 2015 Trix has been living at an assisted living home in Wolfville, NS, to be near her daughter Gail Corkum. Trix Geary is survived by her three children, Lee Rengos (London, UK), Gail Corkum (Wolfville, NS) and Will Geary (Nelson, BC), three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A quiet memorial was held by her family in Wolfville, NS. (Ottawa Citizen 21 Mar 2020)
