DOWLING, Herbert Edward - 71, of Park Haven Estates, formerly of Gordon B. Isnor Manor, Halifax, died Saturday in Victoria General Hospital. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Herbert and Mary (Flannigan) Dowling. He worked for more than 22 years with the Royal Canadian Navy as a L/Stoker, retiring in 1946. After retirement, he work with the HMC Dockyard for more than 24 years, retiring in 1940. Surviving are two sons, Carl and Donald, both of Halifax; three daughters, Marie (Mrs. Raleigh Mombourquette), Chezzetcook; Shirley (Mrs. Jack Cummins) Mississauga, Ont.; Valerie (Mrs. Carl Sampson), Spryfield; two brothers, Archie, Bedford; and Harry; three sisters, Mrs. Frances Beegan, Halifax, Mrs. Beatrice Gates, Montreal; (Mrs. Mary Brown) Dartmouth; 28 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Anna Angeline Martell; a daughter, Eileen; two brothers, Patrick and Frederick; a sister Maggie. The body is at R.D. Lindsay Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m., in St. Lawrence Church. Burial will be in gate of Heaven cemetery, Lower Sackville.

Herbert's brother Archie Dowling also served as a Stoker in the RCN.
