GRANT, Earle Thompson - 84, of Halifax, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Walter and Helen (Thompson) Grant. He served overseas as a CPO in the RCNVR during the Second World War. Following the war he was commanding officer of HMCS Caribou Sea Cadets Corps. Earle had a career in sales and financial planning following his naval service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite and Philae Temple, past president of the St. George Society, a Knight Templar of the Order of St. John Ambulance and a member of the North British Society. As well he was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Chief 's and PO's Assoc. Earle was an active member of First Baptist Church Halifax, serving the church in various capacities. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Doris Anne Best of Lincolnshire, England; a son, Roderick and wife Judith, Baddeck; daughters,Wendy and husband, Rick Swain, Harmony, Holley and husband, Bill Bailey, Sydney. Sisters, Anna Fletcher, Patsy and Helen of Glace Bay, Harriett, Halifax; a brother, Shep, Glace Bay.Four grandchildren, Jason, Tim, Matt and Sarah and a great-grandson, Luke, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother, Jack 'Buddy,' and a sister, Ruth Frost. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, Halifax, 1300 Oxford St.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
